Gay Marriage

In New York, law makers rejected law to make gay marriage legal which would have made NY the 6th to allow gay marriage. The bill was rejected by a 24-48 vote, which, sadly was less than was predicted.

Similarly, the same bill was rejected in Maine last month.

New York Governor Patterson criticized senators as claiming to support gay marriage but not "have the intestinal fortitude to vote for it" in response to only one senator speaking out against the bill but the bill still failing.

In addition, openly homosexual Senator Thomas Duane expresses his anger and disappointment of the issue saying "I wasn't expecting betrayal" He continued saying, "There's never a good time for civil rights. There's never, ever, ever, ever a good time for civil rights. I know. I get that. But the paradox is, it's always the time to be on the right side of history."

Why its illegal if you can fly to another state and get a same-sex marriage?

See the CNN article here.

Please post comments on whether you think gay marriage should be legal or not, and why or why not.

  1. "Marriage" as a religious institution is the domain of religion, and in this context I leave it to individuals to argue about gay marriage within their own communities and traditions. "Marriage" (though distinct from 'civil union') as a civil contract, a secular agreement, is within the purview of the state and the collective of all its citizens. There are a dozen good reasons why the state ought to guarantee the right to gay marriage, but we've already heard them all before.
Frankly, I think it is unfortunate, or perhaps just moronically short-sighted, that our terminology obscures the distinction between the two given the clearly stated separation of church and state.
